PolyOne Geon™ HC Solutions Stand Up to Medical Disinfectants

February 10, 2014

ANAHEIM, Calif. – PolyOne Corporation (NYSE: POL), a premier global provider of specialized polymer materials, services and solutions, will exhibit its Geon HC family of healthcare solutions for medical device housings this week at Medical Design & Manufacturing (MD&M) West 2014. Geon HC 8200 series is formulated for improved chemical resistance to withstand repeated exposure to powerful disinfectants, which are increasingly used in the fight against healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), helping device manufacturers to reduce service calls, warranty claims and product returns.

“Some medical device manufacturers are experiencing a sharp rise in field failures as device housings develop stress cracks from frequent exposure to chemical disinfectants,” said James Stephenson, director, global marketing, PolyOne Geon Performance Materials. “We used our expertise in formulating innovative materials for demanding appliance and electronic applications to develop this family of Geon HC materials, which offer superior chemical resistance to many of the strongest medical disinfectants.”

Independent testing indicates that Geon HC materials for medical device housings offer major advantages in stress-cracking performance compared to many engineering thermoplastic alternatives. In addition, Geon HC materials offer excellent flame resistance, impact resistance and flow properties. They also provide designers with increased flexibility and excellent aesthetics, including a wide range of colors and metallic effects.

Geon HC materials are a robust and durable solution for a variety of medical device housings, such as infusion pumps, imaging systems, and patient monitors.

The PolyOne team works collaboratively with medical device manufacturers, offering a variety of support services, including part and mold design, manufacturing, agency approval, and other services to minimize the time and help manage the risks involved in bringing a new medical device to the market.
